The Short Hare Adventure Race – Race Update #1
Attention Short Hare Racers,
Who’s ready to race?! The Wild Hares sure are! We have an awesome course set up for you and cannot wait for you to experience the Lake Cunningham area.
Although the weather has not been the greatest over the past couple days, the forecast for Saturday is looking very promising, and should be a perfect day for adventure racing.
As we draw closer to the race, we wanted to go over a few things so everyone is prepared on race day.
- Please review the gear list and make sure you have all the required team and individual gear for the race. If a team or solo racer is caught without the required gear, they will incur a penalty – 1 hour.
- Please review the rules of the race, as these will be strictly enforced.
- Solo Racers ONLY – you must provide your own canoe/kayak. Just bring it with you to race check-in and we will tell you where to put it.
- All teams and solo racers will be required to check-in and sign the race waiver before you will receive your race packet.
- Racer check-in will begin at 8:00 AM near the South boat dock parking lot at Lake Cunningham.
- We will hold a pre-race meeting at 8:30 AM near the transition area. At this time we will go over everything for the race and answer any questions you may have.
- Race will start promptly at 9:00 AM.
- The race will go on regardless of rain, sleet, snow, etc. This is an adventure race and sometimes weather is the greatest part of the adventure! With that being said, please plan accordingly – it is always a good idea to bring a rain jacket, extra socks, waterproof pants, gloves, hat and other items that can keep you warm, but you can shed later. None of this is “required gear”, but is highly recommended. A change of clothes to change into after the race is also a good idea.
If you have questions prior to race day, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at, director@wildharesracing.com or, ryan@wildharesracing.com. We truly appreciate your support of Wild Hares Racing and are excited to have you all participate in The Short Hare Adventure Race!
See you Saturday!
Thank you,
WH

Frozen Toes Trail Run Postponed
Racers,
The weather we have had over the past few weeks has left the Swanson trail system a sloppy, muddy mess. Who would have thought we’d have 50 degree weather in January? Wild Hares Racing is all about racing in any conditions nature presents us with. However, given the current state of the trail system, doing so would only cause long-term damage to the trails resulting in unnecessary trail closure and maintenance by folks like T.H.O.R., the City of Omaha and us. With that being said, we have decided to postpone the Frozen Toes Trail Run and move it to a date that will be determined in the next couple of days (keep an eye on Facebook/email for the new date). For all racers who are pre-registered, you may choose to transfer your registration to the Chilly Cheeks Trail Run on March 3rd or move your registration to the new date. Registered racers, please respond to, director@wildharesracing.com to let us know what you would like to do with your registration. If we do not receive a specific request, we will assume you simply want your registration moved and will do so on your behalf.
We would like to express our sincere apologies to all who planned on attending the race. We would also like to emphasize our continued support of the Omaha and surrounding trails and make clear it is this support that has led us to such a decision.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact us via Facebook or by email at the above address.
We appreciate your understanding and hope you will continue to support Wild Hares Racing by joining us for our future trail runs and races.
Thank you,
WH

Wild Hare Adventure Race Update #2 (September 11)
UTM Plotter Requirements
We have received several emails from folks having trouble finding a 1:15000 UTM plotter. This tool is actually not required, but is highly recommended.
At the pre-race meeting, you will be given a large topo map with a scale of 1:25000. For the o’course section, we will hand out another smaller topo map with a scale of 1:15000, along with a new set of o’course coordinates. You may choose to plot these coordinates on either the large (1:25000) or small (1:15000) map. It is highly recommended that you bring a 1:15000 UTM tool to assist with this plotting, but it’s not required. In other words, you can still plot your o’course section coordinates on the 1:25000 map & use the 1:15000 map for assistance in reading the terrain.
Racer Check-in & Pre-race Meeting
Racer check-in will be on Friday, September 14th from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at the Union Pizzeria & Sports Bar in Downtown Omaha. We will have a MANDATORY Pre-Race meeting at 7:00 pm at the Union. You will receive your maps, important instructions and other race information at the meeting. We will announce the race start time and location as well. Also, the Union will graciously be providing a 15% discount on food and drink to all racers. Just mention you are with the race when ordering to receive the discount.
Winter Trail Series
Thank you to all the racers who joined us today at the Frozen Toes Trail Run! It was the final race in our winter trail series. The turnout was great and the racers really enjoyed the course. We truly appreciate the support everyone has given us throughout the series. We got very lucky with the weather this year as Mother Nature didn’t exactly produce the winter temps we were expecting. We will continue to provide and promote high-caliber, multi-sport events. Keep an eye on wildharesracing.com and our Facebook & Twitter pages for updates on future races and events!
